Mahrez Dismisses January Move

Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has dismissed rumors that he would be on his way to a bigger club in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old French-born Algerian international has been one of the best players in the Premier League so far this season and has played a pivotal role in why the Foxes are sitting at the top of the table with 35 points after 16 games. With 11 goals and seven assists, he’s also one of the most productive players in the league.

His performances has attracted attention from bigger clubs, but Mahrez recently said that he’s doesn’t think that a move in January is right for him.

“It’s best for me to stay until the end of the season,” Mahrez told French media outlet RMC. “I was at Le Havre, I had six months left but nobody came to get me. Leicester tried very hard to get me.

“I could feel that they wanted me. I took the decision without knowing the culture or the area. It was a risk.

“When you come from far away and you ended up in the Premier League it makes you happy.”

Despite being at the top spot in the Premier League standings, Mahrez doesn’t see Leicester as title contenders.

“We are not going to win the league, no,” Mahrez said. “I don’t think we have broad enough shoulders to do it. At the moment we are first, but that means nothing, the big teams will wake up at some point.”
