Arsenal Bounce Back With Win Over Sunderland

Arsenal snapped a three-game winless streak by defeating Sunderland 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

After two draws and one loss in their last three league games, the Gunners got back on the winning track against relegation threatened Sunderland. Joel Campbell gave Arsenal the lead in the 33rd minute. Olivier Giroud scored an own goal right before halftime to tie the game at 1-1. The French striker did redeem himself in the second half as he scored in the right net to make it 2-1 in the 63rd minute. Aaron Ramsey scored the final goal of the game in added time.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was pleased with the win, saying that it was a very important game for his side to come out victorious.

“It was a very important game for us tonight because we came out of three disappointing results,” Wenger told arsenal.com after the win. “We had lost only one game but I think it was a very, very important game for us today, psychology, for the fact we had not won, for the fact we had lost important players in our side and we had to show that we can win. We were edgy and nervy in the first half against a very organised team who were dangerous on the counter-attack but in the second half I think we have shown mental strength and desire in our game and more fluency as well. All was not perfect of course but the team have shown mental strength after a goal before half-time. We still managed to win the game in the second half.”

The win took Arsenal up to 2nd place with 30 points in 15 games, as both Manchester clubs dropped points. The Gunners sits two points behind leaders Leicester City.
