Arsenal are heading into the fourth round of the EFL Cup after defeating Nottingham Forest 4-0 on Tuesday at the City Ground.
Lucas Perez scored a brace for the Gunners, with Granit Xhaka and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also finding the back of the net. Xhaka opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute before Perez added goals in the 60th and the 71st minute. The goals were the Spaniard’s first in the Arsenal shirt.
Manager Arsene Wenger said after the game that he was pleased with the win and the performance from his side.
“We got there in the end but the game was tough, Nottingham Forest played with full commitment,” Wenger told the club’s official website. “We needed to be patient and as well not to concede a goal – which we did well. Overall I felt that technically we played well, our combinations worked well and we played at a high pace and that’s where we made the difference in the game.”
Wenger had some special praise for Perez after his two goals.
“Of course, a striker is always growing when he scores goals and I felt that he has shown tonight – I liked his second goal because it was not only technique but it was determination, to fight for the ball and finish, I liked as well the part he played in the goal of Oxlade-Chamberlain because it shows that he can combine with other people and that he is an intelligent player,” Wenger said.
