Arsenal kept their hopes of advancing from the Champions League group stage alive with a 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
Alexis Sanchez scored twice and Mesut Ozil also found the back of the net in the win at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was happy with the performance.
“We played at a good pace, produced a game of quality that we wanted,” Wenger told arsenal.com. “I believe the speed of our movement and passing gave Zagreb a problem. From then on, once we had scored the first goal you could see the chances were coming. It was important that we did not concede the first goal as we looked dangerous [going] forward. Overall we had a game of quality that we controlled well.”
Arsenal sits in third place in Group F on six points, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich and three points behind Olympiacos.
“What we wanted was to come out of this game with a chance to qualify and we needed to do the job and Bayern Munich needed to do the job and they did that well,” Wenger said. “It gives us a chance but how big the chance is I don’t know. I believe we can do it.”
Arsenal must beat Olympiacos by two goals in order to overtake them in the standings and advance to the knockout stage.
“We just need to win,” Wenger said. “It might not be enough, but what I mean is if we go ahead 1-0 then they will be in a situation where they could lose it and we will be a situation in the game which we can win it, so we have to go there to win the game. If you can win 1-0, you can win 2-0. It is a must-win for us and the task is very clear.”
