Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was extremely pleased with the way his side performed in the 4-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues took the lead after just 30 seconds as Pedro exploited a poor United defense to get a one-on-one with David De Gea. Centre back Gary Cahill doubled the lead in the 21st minute, and in the second half, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante also found the back of the net. Conte was delighted with the quick start, as he had challenged his players to open up strong.
“I asked my players to start very strong and show quickly our desire to win this game, not only our fans but above all our opponent,” Conte said. “It happened because we scored after 30 seconds.
“The most important thing was that we continued to play, and to try to score the second goal. It happened and I’m very happy.
“Now we must continue. Manchester United is the past for me. We must be concentrated on Wednesday. It’s important to recover the energy and to prepare for another difficult game.”
Conte believed it was important to grab a win against a title-aspiring team after falling earlier in the season against Liverpool and Arsenal.
“It was very important for our ambition,” Conte said. “After defeats against two great teams, Liverpool and Arsenal, it was very important to have a good answer and win against a very strong team like Man United.
“We are working very hard, I see my players every day with the right commitment and work-rate. We took three points and we won against a strong team. This type of win usually increases your confidence. You trust your work more.”
