Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says that his team can build on the 2-1 win over West Ham on Monday and become a lot better.
Conte got off to a winning start in his Chelsea career after a late goal by Diego Costa against the Hammers at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea dominated much of the possession, but failed to kill off the game after going up early in the second half. Eden Hazard scored from the penalty spot in the 47th minute. West Ham tied things up in the 77th minute through centre back James Collins, but managed to grab the win through the goal by Costa in the 89th minute. But Conte believes the team must improve going forward.
“The team played a good game with great intensity and good spirit,” Conte told Sky Sports. “It’s important to find the right spirit and intensity, we know that we can improve and we must improve a lot, but I am pleased for the team.
“The victory was deserved for me. Now we have to prepare for the next game.”
Hazard was awarded Man of the Match, and Conte was pleased with what he saw from the Belgian international.
“Eden played a good game,” Conte said. “He has great ability and is very important in this team.
“I am very pleased with his performance but I know, and he knows, that he can improve a lot.”
Chelsea takes on Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday in the second game of the season.
