Crazy Finish Saves Point For Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth came back to save a point against Everton after a goal deep into stoppage time by Junior Stanislas.

The Cherries went down 2-0 in the first half after goals by Ramiro Funes Mori and Romelu Lukaku. But they clawed their way back into the game in the second half. Adam Smith got Bournemouth on the board in the 80th minute and Stanislas tied the game in the 87th minute.

Ross Barkley thought he had won the game for Everton when he scored in the 95th minute, as Everton fans stormed onto the pitch to celebrate the goal with the players. But Stanislas wasn’t done scoring as he got his second of the night with one of the last kicks of the game in the 98th minute.

“It almost feels like a win,” Stanislas said after the game.

“You feel like everything is against you when you concede that late on.

“But we showed tremendous character to keep pressing and get that winner.

“The atmosphere when it went in was just incredible.”

Stanislas was quick to praise Smith who scored a real highlight reel goal finding the top corner with a great strike from outside the penalty box.

“It was great positivity from Smudge [Adam Smith] for my goal,” he continued.

“He had an incredible impact on the game. Obviously he scored a superb goal of his own as well.

“He started on the bench today but he has been brilliant for us all season.

“I think he showed the gaffer today why he thinks he deserves a starting place.”

Everton manager Roberto Martinez was disappointed to drop points after being up 2-0 after the first half.

“The first goal that they scored is a world class finish,” Martinez told evertonfc.com. “But it could have hit the post and gone anywhere. Then the cross for the third goal is a hopeful one and the finish is a disappointing one for us. But it came from momentum and throwing bodies forward.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t defend that action. Overall, to start in the manner that we did, getting the two goals, then the reaction to them coming back at 2-2, means it is very tough to not take the three points.

“This needs to get us more determined and have a stronger desire to win games in the Premier League.”
