Hodgson Warns Star Players Ahead Of Euro 2016

England national team manager Roy Hodgson has warned players that were left out of the current squad that it will take a lot of work to get back.

England had a slew of players out with injuries for the latest international break, including stars like Daniel Sturridge, Michael Carrick and James Milner. But there are no guarantees that they will automatically get back into the side when they’re healthy.

“Loyalty is an important quality and one should never dismiss the value of loyalty from player to coach and coach to player,” Hodgson told The Daily Mirror.

“But it is a world in which, unfortunately, if you want to keep your place in the team you have to be playing to a very high level — especially when other people are doing well around you.

“I would never be able to pick a team on loyalty alone. I would have to pick the best players at the time and someone like Dele Alli, and I would also mention Eric Dier — who I thought was really good [against France].

“They are two players who maybe haven’t had a lot of publicity in terms of their chances up to now, but I think they are going to get a lot of publicity for their chances going forward.

“The interesting thing is we had as many players missing as we did and some of them have been missing for a long while. Three or four of them are long term.

“We have tried to stress to the players who came in that we believed in them, they are here because we believe in them — ‘We think you can do the job.'”
