Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to make his first appearance in a Manchester United shirt on Saturday as United takes on Galatasaray in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The hype around Zlatan has been intense ever since he decided to join United on a one-year deal after spending the last four years at Paris Saint-Germain. Ibra is coming off his best season goal-wise, scoring 50 goals in all competitions last season for PSG. The 34-year-old Swedish star will make his debut in his home country, and said he’s looking forward to play with his new teammates.
“Everybody has been waiting for that moment,” Ibrahimovic told MUTV. “There has been a lot of talk and to make my debut in my country will feel great. I think the fans are waiting for me to come back and they are waiting to enjoy not only me, but the team as well. Hopefully, we can give them a good game and, at the same time, we are in the preparation. We need to keep focused, to build up the physical part and the conditioning part but we will give them what they want.”
Ibrahimovic also spoke about his personal philosophy regarding training, as he manages to stay in peak physical form despite turning 35 later this year.
“I believe in working hard,” Ibrahimovic said. “Not only in games but even in training. The way you train is the way you play in the games – that’s my philosophy. Working hard, training hard and feeling good. Then you need to get the rhythm by playing games.”
