Inter Milan bounced back with a 1-0 win over Genoa on Saturday after losing to Napoli earlier in the week and regained the top spot in Serie A.
Inter suffered a 2-1 loss to Napoli on Monday, and lost the league lead, but the Nerazzurri refocused and took a narrow win at home over Genoa after a goal by Adem Ljajic in the second half. With Napoli losing 3-2 to Bologna on Sunday morning, Inter are now back at the top of the standings with 33 points, one point ahead of second-placed Fiorentina and two points ahead of Napoli in third.
Inter manager Roberto Mancini was very pleased to bounce back with a win after the disappointing result against Napoli.
“It was important to bounce back immediately after the Napoli game to consolidate the positive aspects of our performance at the San Paolo,” Mancini told inter.it after the game. “The match was tough because we didn’t finish the many chances we created in the first half against Genoa.”
Mancini also spoke about Ljajic who scored the only goal of the game. The 24-year-old Serbian joined Inter on loan from Roma at the start of the season, and he has been impressive so far. The loan deal has a buyout clause, and it looks more and more likely that Inter will opt to buy the player at the end of the season.
“Adem is playing well and I’m pleased for him,” Mancini said. “He can do even more because he definitely has room for improvement. Sometimes players simply improve because they mature as they get older. I must say everyone is performing well.”
