Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Loris Karius is his first-choice goalkeeper, and Simon Mignolet his No. 2.
With Karius coming back from injury, the 23-year-old German has taken over the starting job from Mignolet.
“In this moment, we have a No.1 and that is Loris Karius,” Klopp said. “That’s the situation. I cannot leave them in doubt. There was a short moment when we gave him [Karius] time to see a little more of him.
“After the last international break, I spoke to both of them and made that decision. There’s nothing else to say. I’ve made that decision. Loris is No.1 at this moment and Simon is No.2.”
Karius was brought in by Klopp from Bundesliga side Mainz over the summer. Mignolet, 28, who is on his fourth season at Anfield, is set to start the game against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday in the EFL Cup.
“The chance of him starting is 100 percent if nothing happens in training,” Klopp said. “It is a luxury problem for me. I made the decision and of course he was not happy about it but he is a really good professional.
“We have had a few talks and I don’t have the perfect answer for him. He’s still not happy but nobody can see this in training. He is working hard.”
Liverpool moved into 3rd place in the Premier League standings over the weekend after picking up a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.
