New Chelsea signing David Luiz says that he’s happy to play anywhere on the field after re-joining the Blues on the final day of the transfer window.
Luiz, 29, cost Chelsea £34 million. The Brazilian international signed a three-year deal, making his return to the club after two seasons at Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. Luiz won back-to-back domestic trebles with PSG. It’s not clear how manager Antonio Conte will use Luiz, but he’s happy to play anywhere.
“I started playing three at the back with Vitoria in Brazil, but it doesn’t matter where, I want to help and when I am in the team I am there to try to help,” Luiz told the club’s official website.
“The coach is an amazing coach, he understands a lot of tactical things and I know he chooses every match the best line up, so if he needs to play three, four or two, it doesn’t matter, I am there if he wants me to play. In different positions I am available.”
The central defender/defensive midfielder also revealed that he’s looking forward to being on the same team as striker Diego Costa, after battling against him in the Champions League the past two seasons.
“Yes! He was an amazing player when I was playing against him,” Luiz said. “He is a guy who gives everything for your team and now I am on his side, for sure I have a great striker for my team and with the spirit of love for football, with passion, so I am happy for that.”
