Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is adamant that he hasn’t been affected by transfer speculations, and that he will be back to scoring goals once he’s back to full fitness.
Lukaku, 23, has been trying to get healthy since returning from Euro 2016. He’s only started one of the three opening games for Everton, and was rumored throughout the summer with a move away from Goodison Park. But with the arrival of new manager Ronald Koeman and Farhad Moshiri became majority shareholder, he opted to stay for at least another season.
The Belgian international stressed that the transfer rumors didn’t have any impact on his play, and that he will be scoring goals again once he’s back in shape.
“Not at all. I left it all to my agent, he dealt with it,” Lukaku told Sky Sports.
“I just went on holiday and when I came back the last game before the season started I had an injury. It kept me out for a long time. I couldn’t do anything with it.
“So now for me it’s just my pre-season phase so I’m working really hard to be 100 percent fit. As soon as I’m fit the goals will come for sure.”
Lukaku also revealed that he and Koeman had little contact during the transfer window.
“Me and him [Koeman) didn’t talk too much about the situation,” Lukaku said. “He was in contact with my agent throughout the period. I just focused on my football. For me personally I just want to do my best for the team.”
