Martinez Frustrated With Another Everton Draw

Everton is enjoying a six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, but they have drawn three straight, which is frustrating manager Roberto Martinez.

Everton had the lead on the road to Norwich after a goal by Romelu Lukaku in the 15th minute. The Blues almost went up 2-0 as Leighton Baines had a shot go off the post in the 39th minute. Instead it was Norwich that got the next goal as Wes Hoolahan scored early in the second half.

Martinez thought that his team had done enough to get the win, but that they were a bit unlucky.

“We controlled Norwich and their threat really well and we were unfortunate to concede from a corner,” Martinez told evertonfc.com. “I don’t think anything changed with us; our intensity was as good in the second half as it was in the first.

“There is considerable frustration when you create so many chances and you don’t get the second goal. You end up having something to lose. Norwich could have been out of the game at halftime but we gave them a little bit of hope. Then the belief and momentum goes into them with the goal.

“But we still carried on looking for the victory and did so until the last kick of the game.”

Martinez said that they need to turns the draw into wins if they are to challenge for a European cup spot.

“Football can be cruel at times and it was today,” Martinez said. “In terms of controlling our own destiny, I thought the performance was really strong, especially in the first half. We were well in control, we scored our goal and probably had enough chances to kill the game off.

“Then second half, we had two defend two corners and one ends up in the back of the net. We then didn’t find that extra bit of luck in front of goal.

“In terms of performance, it was very similar to Monday night. It’s a dominant performance that deserved victory but we have now dropped four points and that’s where we need to grow quickly.

“We have to turn these draws into wins.”
