Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho lashed out at critics after his side beat Northampton in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
United picked up a 3-1 win on the road against the League One side, with Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, and Marcus Rashford scoring the goals for the Red Devils.
The win ended a bad run that saw the team suffer three straight defeats in the span of a week. After losing at home to rivals City in the Manchester Derby, they lost to Feyenoord in the Europa League, and then to Watford on Sunday. Mourinho, who has been criticized after the poor run of form, took a dig at the critics.
“I know that some football Einsteins – football is full of Einsteins – I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career,” Mourinho told MUTV.
“They tried to delete an unbelievable history of Man United football club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that’s the new football – it’s full of Einsteins.
“I can understand clearly the disappointment if the fans are disappointed with the last week,” said Mourinho.
“I understand completely, but I’m sure that with the team going back home [United takes on reigning Premier League champions Leicester City on Saturday] they will be behind the team like they always are.”
