Okore Target For Racial Abuse By Danish Politician

Aston Villa defender and Danish international Jores Okore was the target for a racial attack by Danish politician Daniel Carlsen.

Carlsen is the leader of a far-right wing party in Denmark, and after Okore featured on the campaign for the new Danish kit, he took to Twitter and said that “it’s unfortunately not just the national team’s shorts which has a new color.”

Carlsen was asked what he meant by his comment, and he replied, “I don’t believe that Africans should represent Denmark’s national team.”

Okore, 23, was born in the Ivory Coast, but moved to Denmark at the age of 3.

Okore posted the following message on Twitter: “Thanks for all the love and support.. Stuff like that shouldn’t be a topic anymore specially in 2015.”

“I am disgusted by Carlsen’s sick comments,” Okore’s agent Nikola Juric told The Sun. “We live in the 21st century and yet I am still able to read views like that

“I’m astonished people still think in this way in a modern society. I was disgusted just seeing the words — I wasn’t sure I could believe my own eyes. When you consider what happened in France on Friday night, it seems even more appalling.

“It appears to me to be the views of an uneducated young man who has no knowledge of the real world. Jores has always been so proud to represent Denmark, it makes me outraged that someone could hold those despicable views.”

Okore is currently rehabbing from an injury and is not going to play on Tuesday when Denmark takes on Sweden in the second leg of the Euro 2016 qualification playoffs at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Sweden won the first leg in Solna 2-1.
