Tottenham were held to a draw by Chelsea as the game ended 0-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday, but manager Mauricio Pochettino was still proud of his players.
The Spurs had a tough week, playing away to Qarabag in Azerbaijan in the Europa League on Thursday. With that in mind, Pochettino said after the game that he thinks that his team had a good showing.
“It’s always difficult to play against Chelsea and after traveling back from Azerbaijan it was an even tougher game but I think we can be pleased with the performance and the maturity we showed as a team,” Pochettino told tottenhamhotspur.com after the game. “The effort was unbelievable and for me, they are all heroes.
“We deserved more but at the end we have to be happy with the effort, we created more chances than Chelsea – I think they had one shot on target – and we can feel proud of the performance.”
Pochettino also had some praise for the opponents.
“Chelsea played like a real team,” Pochettino said. “The effort, how they ran, the commitment, they showed respect and you only have to look at how Oscar, Hazard, Willian, Matic and Fabregas all ran, it was unbelievable.
“In the end, we can feel happy and maybe a bit disappointed because we always try to win. It was an opportunity at home but now we need to look forward and to be ready for West Brom.”
Tottenham is on a 13-game unbeaten run in the league, having not lost a game since Opening Day against Manchester United.
“It’s important, unbeaten in 13, but the most important thing now is to win against West Brom,” Pochettino said. “We need to follow in the same way, to keep working and always think towards to the next game.”
Tottenham sits in 5th place with 25 points, four points behind leaders Manchester City.
