Real Madrid Bounce Back From El Clasico Loss

Real Madrid got back on the winning track after last week’s loss to Barcelona. Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 2-0 win over Eibar.

The humiliating 4-0 loss at home to Barcelona in El Clasico dominated headlines in Spain throughout the week, and the board had to come out and call a press conference and announce that they still stand behind manager Rafa Benitez.

The 55-year-old manager was very pleased with the win on the road to Eibar.

“The win came through teamwork, it was achieved through everyone working hard,” Benitez told realmadrid.com after the game. “The things we worked on came off and allowed us to break the deadlock at a difficult ground as well as pick up three points against a tricky opponent. All of the Real Madrid players played sensationally.

“Getting the three points and doing so with such a willingness to dig in was important. The key to maintaining that strength in the future is that the team show that same level of sacrifice, hard work, intensity and effort.”

Gareth Bale gave Real Madrid the lead shortly before halftime, and Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute to secure the three points. Benitez talked about the team’s recent form and Ronaldo after the win.

“It’s November and there’s still loads of time to go,” Benitez said. “We have a great team and we’re going to fight to win every game from here until the end of the season.

“Cristiano Ronaldo got a goal, created chances and worked for the team. He contributed to the win and I was delighted with his performance.”

Real sits in 3rd place in the La Liga standings with 27 points after 13 games, six points behind leaders Barcelona and two points behind local rivals Atletico Madrid.
