Arjen Robben has warned Manchester United’s Memphis Depay that the Premier League is “not always sunshine” but that he can succeed.
Depay, 21, was brought in from PSV Eindhoven to United over the summer for a reported fee of £25 million. But Depay has been struggling during the first part of the season as has seen himself lose his place in the starting XI. The youngster put a lot of extra pressure on himself after requesting the iconic number 7 shirt, worn by club legends like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Former Chelsea player Arjen Robben has said that he’s more than willing to offer Depay some help on how to cope with life in England. He also believes that Depay has the quality to succeed.
“Of course I will give him advice,” Robben told The Daily Mirror. “We try to help each other as players and the team to make steps.
“He is a talented player in a difficult situation – I can give him advice but the player has to cope with it, show strength and the right mentality. It is important in your development as a player. It is not always sunshine and you have difficult periods, especially when you are young.
“He has a long way ahead and if he shows the right mentality, the talent is there. If he keeps working hard I am sure he can succeed.”
Depay has 20 caps for the Dutch national team.
