Sunderland is still without a win in the Premier League after playing a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
After seven matches, the Black Cats are sitting second from the bottom with a mere two points. On Saturday at the Stadium of Light, they fell behind in the 35th minute after a goal by Nacer Chadli, who has enjoyed a good start with West Bromwich since joining from Tottenham over the summer.
Patrick van Aanholt saved a point for the home side with a goal in the 83rd minute. Manager David Moyes was pleased with the performance, but was a bit disappointed they weren’t able to get the win.
“The energy and commitment was great,” Moyes told the club’s official website. “The endeavor was fantastic, though we are lacking bits of quality.
“We had to change the system and see if we could find another way of getting a goal, and thankfully Pat came on and got one for us.”
Moyes continued: “I’d have liked to have got that second goal and won it 2-1, but I don’t think we deserved to be 1-0 down as we played well enough in the first half.
“I’m pleased we’ve come back to get a point and it’s a start, but I’m still disappointed we didn’t get all three.
“I’ve got to say well done to the players for sticking at it; they kept going and never gave in to get us something out of the game.”
