Manchester United got back to winning ways as they defeated Everton 3-0 on Saturday at Goodison Park, a result that Louis van Gaal was proud of.
United suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Arsenal right before the international break, and the trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton was not a given three points as the team has struggled away to the Blues.
But van Gaal and his men played a great game and went home with three points after goals by Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney. Van Gaal was very pleased with the way his team responded to the Arsenal loss.
“I am very happy with the response of my players and I am very proud of the performance,” van Gaal told manutd.com. “I think it was an excellent performance and maybe it is the start of many, many victories.”
The Dutch manager also gave praise to Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Schneiderlin and Herrera. Rojo played on the left back position as United are still without injured Luke Shaw. Jones played a really solid game in the central defense and Herrera and Schneiderlin both picked up goals.
“They played very well, I have to say that, but it was not for nothing that I kept Rojo here because he was injured,” van Gaal said. “He had not played 90 minutes for me this season, it was his first 90 minutes, and also for Phil Jones. These changes were also question marks before the game, I didn’t know if they could play for 90 minutes. That is also why I changed Herrera. It was a fantastic performance and I was very happy with him, but I maybe need him on Wednesday so I had to spare him, and it was the same thing with [Bastian] Schweinsteiger. I am a very happy coach because I have seen a lot of good individual players in my team. That also gives confidence for the matches against CSKA Moscow and Manchester City.”
United takes on CSKA Moscow on Wednesday in the Champions League before meeting up with rivals CIty next weekend in the Manchester United.
