Mario Balotelli is leaving Liverpool and heading back to AC Milan. The player is due to arrive on Tuesday for medical exams according to reports.
Balotelli’s spell at Liverpool has been a complete failure, with the 25-year-old Italian striker only finding the back of the net once in his 16 league appearances last season. The Guardian reports that Balotelli is set for a move back to Milan on loan.
Liverpool spent £16 million last summer to bring Balotelli back to England from Milan. He was supposed to be the first choice striker for the Reds, but fell way short of expectations. Now he’s going back to Milan on a season-long loan, and reports say that Milan doesn’t have to pay a loan fee, just 50 percent of Balotelli’s salary.
The polarizing striker got his breakthrough at Inter Milan at a young age before going to Manchester City in 2010. His character has always been a matter of debate, as he has had numerous off the field incidents. He had one infamous case in Manchester where he was firing off fireworks at the youth players from a balcony.
Milan will hope that they can keep him under control and that he can perform at the same level he did when he joined the team the first time in 2012. Milan signed him from Man City in the January transfer window and Balotelli went on to score 12 goals in 13 games for the Rossoneri. He followed that up with 14 league goals in 30 games the following season before leaving for Liverpool.
