Chelsea has been on the hunt for a new left back, and now Augsburg has revealed that they have sold Baba Rahman to the London club for an undisclosed fee.
The German side Augsburg revealed the transfer on their website on Sunday.
“Baba Rahman has developed tremendously in the one year with us and made a great leap,” said Augsburg’s general manager Stefan Reuter. “It’s not just an award for his achievements, but also for our work when a top international club like Chelsea are interested in signing him. We wish him well in England all the best for his developing this continues. ”
Chelsea let go of Filipe Luis earlier in the summer, as he returned to Atletico Madrid after just one season with Chelsea, so it was clear that the club needed to get a replacement in. Rahman had been on Chelsea’s radar for some time, as the young Ghanaian international has had a rocket like career in the past year.
Rahman, 21, came to Augsburg last summer from German second-tier club Greuther Furth. Rahman played 31 Bundesliga games last season for Augsburg, and has 11 caps for Ghana.
Rahman took the opportunity to thank the fans and the coaching staff at Augsburg on the club’s website.
“I thank all those responsible, coaches and also fans of FC Augsburg for the support last year,” Rahman said. “I have to take this chance to play at a top club in England, although I had set myself up for a long-term stay in Augsburg a year ago. I felt very comfortable in the team and will of course follow FCA.”
