The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is furious with manager Jose Mourinho over the situation with team doctor Eva Carneiro after Mourinho has banned Carneiro from being in the dugout with the team on matchdays.
Mourinho lashed out at Carneiro and the medical staff after the 2-2 draw against Swansea on Opening Day of the Premier League season. Mourinho was not pleased with the way Carneiro and the medical staff handled a situation late in the game when Chelsea attacking midfielder Eden Hazard went down and stayed on the pitch.
As Hazard received treatment on the field, he needed to step out to the sidelines before entering the game again, which left Chelsea with only nine players as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had been red carded early in the second half.
“It is a huge concern that Dr Carneiro has been subjected to unprecedented media scrutiny and a change in her professional role, merely because she adhered to her code of professional conduct and did her job properly,” read statement from the Premier League Doctors Group that they Daily Mail took part of.
The Daily Mail writes that Mourinho has no intention of backing down. Carneiro is banned from being in the dugout during games, but she’s still a first-team doctor but will be stationed at Chelsea’s training grounds in Cobham.
Carneiro is seeking a public apology and reports are that she is seeking legal advice, so this might end up in court. The Daily Mail also reports that this wasn’t the first time that Mourinho had butted heads with Carneiro as Diego Costa’s lingering hamstring problems were a point of contention last season.
