Several of the big British news outlets are reporting that Jurgen Klopp is on his way to Liverpool to sign a contract to become the next manager at Anfield.
The 48-year-old German manager has been deemed the frontrunner in the press ever since Liverpool fired Brendan Rodgers after the 1-1 draw against Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Sunday.
Several outlets, including The Guardian, are now reporting that Klopp is on his way to Liverpool to sign the contract. Liverpool has called for a press conference on Friday, saying that they have a “major club announcement.” It’s being reported that Klopp will sign a three-year contract with the Reds.
There are also reports that Klopp will earn around £5 million per year at Anfield. Fenway Sports Group, who also owns the Boston Red Sox and the regional sports cable network NESN, has been working quickly to get Klopp in to replace Rodgers. With the international break right now, Klopp would have some time to get settled and work with the players that are not on international duty.
Klopp is said to have left Dortmund on a private jet that will take him to the Liverpool John Lennon Airport. It’s believed that Klopp will change up a few things in the backroom staff and bring in his former assistants from his time in Dortmund, Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz.
Klopp has been on a four-month sabbatical since he left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season. During his time with Dortmund, he lead the team to two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup title.
