Mourinho Disappointed In His Players

Chelsea’s miserable season continued on Monday when the Blues fell 2-1 to Leicester City. Jose Mourinho said afterwards that he felt betrayed by his players.

The loss, which was Chelsea’s ninth of the season, puts the reigning champions in 16th place with 15 points, just a single point above the relegation zone. Chelsea fell behind 2-0 to Leicester after a goal by Jamie Vardy in the first half, and another early in the second half by Riyad Mahrez.

Loic Remy pulled one back for Chelsea in the 77th minute, but the Blues were unable to get anything out of the game. Chelsea were outworked by Leicester for big stretches of the game and failed to even get a shot on target in the first half. Manager Jose Mourinho said after the game that a top four finish is out of the picture and that he felt betrayed by his players, and that they don’t execute the same way as they do during training.

“We conceded two goals that are unacceptable,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “My best qualities are to read the game for my players, every detail about the opponent.

“These two goals, the movement of Vardy between the central defenders, the cross with the left foot, it is a big frustration to accept. We should be two against one against Mahrez, not one against one. I feel that my work was betrayed.

“It’s obvious we did not play at our best level. Players in crucial positions are not at their normal level. It is hard.

“Last year I did phenomenal work. They were at more than their level. We are doing so bad this season for some reason. Some of them are different.

“Day by day in training, I have no complaints. I am frustrated by the difference between training and matches. I have to be honest with them.”
