Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had some high praise for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ahead of their matchup on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
“They were a good team, they are a good team,” Mourinho said in his pregame press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash against Liverpool. “They had good players, they have good players. They had a very good manager, they have a new very good manager.
“Everything is the same. They have changed some details obviously in their tactical approach, but this is the nature of the game, especially when you are thinking and speaking about two top managers.
“When you change a top manager to another top one the level is high. They know what to do, there is just a little bit of difference about the way they think about football.
“About Jurgen I just say I am not a close friend, because football doesn’t normally allow that, but he is a guy I like a lot. We have a good relationship, and as a manager his work speaks and in spite of the last season to forget, I consider him one of the top managers in Europe.”
Mourinho also spoke about Brazilian midfielder Ramires who has signed a new deal with the club, saying that he was very pleased with what he brings to the table.
“It’s not this season, it’s not tomorrow – it’s what he’s doing since he came to Chelsea,” Mourinho said. “It’s his mentality as a group man. He is a player that is ready to play, to be on the bench, to be in the stands, to play as a midfielder or a goalkeeper or a striker, to play where the team needs him.
“He’s one of these guys that every manager loves and I am happy the club recognised he deserves that [the new contract]. Everybody is happy because Ramires is one of these guys not many recognize what he is really is and what he means.”
