Pellegrini Doesn’t Care About Guardiola Rumors

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini doesn’t care about rumors that Pep Guardiola will take over or that his players will abandon him.

Since Guardiola announced that he will not extend his contract with Bayern Munich, he’s been heavily linked to take over from Pellegrini at Manchester City. But the 62-year-old Chilean isn’t paying much attention to the rumors, and he doesn’t think his players are affected in any way.

“No, because the players know exactly the way I think,” Pellegrini told the Mirror. “I don’t have any worries about my future.

“I don’t need to tell them [to ignore the rumours] because they know the way I think, the way I act, the way I prepare for games, so I don’t need to tell them.

“I don’t think players work for the manager, they work for the group, for themselves, because they want to win.

“I don’t think that makes any differences for the players, especially given that I know the way they are thinking.

“You have to have a good connection – and that is the most important thing to be a good manager.

“But I don’t think a player will have any problems if he is listening to or reading about things that may happen next season.

“If they do, they are not professional players, they are not top players.

“So I’m absolutely sure nobody in the squad has any problems or doubts about what we’re doing and, after that, we’ll see what happens.”

City takes on Sunderland at home on Boxing Day.
