Tottenham Hotspur grabbed their second win of the season in the Premier League after Heung-Min Son scored the winner against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
This London derby wasn’t as hyped as the one that took place on Saturday between Chelsea and Arsenal, but it was still an important game for many Londoners. Tottenham has been struggling a bit to start the season, but after beating Sunderland last weekend 1-0 the Spurs now has two straight wins.
Palace had the best scoring chance in the first half, with Yohan Cabaye hitting the post right before the halftime whistle. Son became the hero in the second half as he scored his first league goal for his new club in the 68th minute.
The 23-year-old South Korean signed for Tottenham during the summer from Bayer Leverkusen and he’s gotten off to a good start at his new club. He scored twice in the 3-1 win over Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday. Manager Mauricio Pochettino was pleased with the win and Son’s game.
“It was one of the best performances of the season,” Pochettino said at the postgame press conference. “We thoroughly deserved the result.
“When you sign players you expect them to make a big impact in the team. We are very happy with him [Son].
“He has adapted to the team very well. After scoring twice in the Europa League he scored again and when you arrive at the club as a striker that’s very good.”
Spurs star striker Harry Kane has yet to find the net this season in league play, and has now gone 11 games without scoring going back to last season. Despite the lack of goals, Pochettino isn’t worried about Kane.
“I am not concerned [about Kane]. Maybe he is a little bit because he’s a striker but it’s only a matter of time before he scores again.”
