Manchester United has offered £60 million for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller according to reports in Germany.
German daily Sport BILD claims that United has submitted an offer that is on par with what they paid for Angel Di Maria last summer. Muller, 25, has admitted that he has a special relationship with United manager Louis van Gaal, but it seems unlikely that Bayern would let their German star go as the season has started.
United has already made one purchase from Bayern this summer as they brought in central midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. Muller was given the chance in the Bayern lineup when van Gaal was the manager and has spoken about their relationship.
Muller got off to a great start to season, scoring twice for Bayern in the 5-0 win over Hamburg SV on Opening Day of the Bundesliga. The German international has two years left on his contract with Bayern.
With Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson being the only pure strikers in the United squad, rumors about another forward has been circulating for better part of the summer. Van Gaal has said that getting another striker isn’t the top priority as he sees Adnan Januzaj and Memphis Depay as having the potential to fill in up top as well.
Muller would be a massive signing for United as he has a wealth of experience despite only being 25 year old. Muller has played over 300 games for Bayern, scoring 123 goals. He’s won four Bundesliga titles and one Champions League title. He also has 27 goals in 63 caps for the German national team and was part of the World Cup winning side last summer in Brazil.
