Tottenham Hotspur took a 4-1 win over West Ham United in an exciting London Derby on Saturday at White Hart Lane.
The Spurs played with an incredible amount of pace against West Ham who has been known as a really strong away side this season. Harry Kane opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute, and Toby Alderweireld made it 2-0 10 minutes later. Spurs kept pushing in the second half and Kane netted his second of the game in the 50th minute to basically kill the game. Kyle Walker made it 4-0 in the 83rd minute before Manuel Lanzini got West Ham on the scoreboard in the 87th minute.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was delighted with the win and the performance from his side.
“It was an amazing performance and I’ve only one word, ‘pride’, and that’s pride in the way we played,” Pochettino told tottenhamhotspur.com after the win.
“The game was brilliant against a very difficult team like West Ham, another derby and I can only say ‘thanks’ to the players and the supporters. I say that first to the players because they showed an unbelievable performance and then to our fans, they supported us throughout the 95 minutes. It was a good opportunity for them to enjoy the game.
“It’s true, I think we can take a lot of positives from today – the energy, the way we played, the key is our mental state. If you are happy in the way you play and you believe in the philosophy then you can see that in a performance like we showed against West Ham.
“We have a good balance in the squad, we are still young and we can grow – time, belief and working hard is the key for us.
“I’m happy, but now we need to look at the next game.”
Tottenham sits in 5th place with 24 points, two points behind rivals Arsenal in 4th, and four points behind leaders Leicester City.
