The Premier League is filled with superstars from all over the globe, so it’s no surprise the league also has some of the best young players in the world. Here are the top-five young players under 21 years of age in the Premier League.
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
Sterling’s performances for Liverpool the past three seasons prompted Manchester City to throw a sack of money to Liverpool. Sterling cost City close to $69 million this summer, plus another $8 million in add-ons.
Sterling, 20, is a creative attacking winger that can make his man. He scored seven league goals last season in 35 appearances, but City manager Manuel Pellegrini expects his young new star to score more at City.
“I am sure he will score more goals than he did before,” Pellegrini told ESPN FC. “I think last year he scored 11 in all competitions. I am sure this season he will improve.
“I think that he will be a very dangerous player. Maybe we were criticized for the amount we played for him but I am sure he will demonstrate during the year, especially against the big teams, why he was valued so much.”
Sterling already has 16 caps for England, and the pressure is now on him to live up to the huge transfer fee.
