Harry Kane scored a hat trick as Tottenham Hotspur thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 on the road on Sunday at Vitality Stadium.
Bournemouth took the lead in the opening minute when Matt Ritchie found the back of the net. Spurs tied things up in the 9th minute when Harry Kane slotted home a penalty kick after being fouled in the area by Artur Boruc.
Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela also found the back of the net for Spurs in the opening half to give Tottenham a 3-1 at halftime. Kane then added two more goals to complete a hat trick in the second half. Kane has had some trouble scoring, but the hat trick this weekend could be a step in the right direction.
“As a striker you have to be patient,” Kane said after the game. “I feel I’ve been playing well, as a team we’re playing well and I’m delighted to get the three goals.”
The hat trick brings Kane’s tally for the season up to four.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino was also pleased with the win and praise the performance of his players.
“It’s always the same in football, when you speak about something – and we said ‘we need to be focused’ – then ‘bang’, you know something will happen!” Pochettino told tottenhamhotspur.com after the win.
“It was was the opposite of Anderlecht but I was very pleased with the reaction of the players, which was fantastic. We fully deserved the win and created even more chances.
“It was a very difficult game against a team that looks to play on the grass, runs a lot, is very aggressive and our effort was fantastic in the way we pressed, the way we put them under pressure.
“For me, it’s the way we reacted after we conceded the early goal, the mentality was strong and the way we played, we pushed hard, put them under pressure and after that, we were clinical in front of goal.”
The win puts the Spurs in 6th place in the table with 17 points. Spurs haven’t lost in the league since Opening Day when they fell 1-0 to Manchester United.
