Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is preparing his squad to keep pace in the Premier League and bounce back after the mid-week loss to PSV Eindhoven.
Van Gaal was asked about his preparations for the away game to Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.
“I approach all matches in the same way, in the same procedure and with the same amount of meetings,” van Gaal told manutd.com. We want to help the players play the game against Southampton and beat them. That is what we are doing as the staff but the players have to do it, of course.”
Van Gaal also gave his opinion on United’s away form. This season they have suffered one away loss in the Premier League against Swansea City, and opened up the Champions League group stage with an away loss to PSV Eindhoven.
“We’ve already noticed we lost against Swansea and PSV Eindhoven. In the Champions League it is important that you do not lose those away matches. We have time and also matches that we can improve in that way and we shall.”
Van Gaal also gave an update on injured left back Luke Shaw that suffered a double leg break in the mid-week game against PSV in the Champions League.
“I have to admit he was strong and firm. It was another look than the day before, so I was happy with that. But of course he knows that it is a long way to go for him. The operation was a good operation. It’s a great loss. I have said in advance of this season already that it shall be the season of Luke Shaw. He has started fantastically and everybody has seen that.
“You have to build up again a combination with the player in front of him. Memphis and Shaw were a very combination and now you have to build up a new combination. You have to start again and that is difficult. It’s also difficult for the player who has to replace him. But we have in Blind, Rojo and in Ashley Young, good replacements.”
