Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that his team playing on the road in the Champions League will benefit their rivals Manchester City.
United and City are set to meet up in the Manchester Derby on Sunday in the Premier League at Old Trafford. But before that, United takes on CSKA Moscow on the road on Wednesday in the Champions League while City play at home against Sevilla.
Van Gaal thinks the that City playing at home in the Champions League will benefit them in the derby.
“Every club at the top of the league has the same problems,” van Gaal told The Guardian. “But now Manchester City has a benefit because they are playing at home and that is a difference. The next time we may have the benefit you never know.
“But it is important that it is like that because you can have the benefit. You have the benefit of the recuperation. Manchester City don’t have the travel we have. So they have more rest.
“There is nothing you can do. They have the benefit. We do a lot of things to try and help. We have cold baths, we have warm baths, less training sessions and practise so the freshness is good enough to beat City. But first we have to beat Moscow.”
United sits in third place in Group B, as all teams in the group have three points after two games. City sits in third in Group D, level on points with second-placed Sevilla, and three points behind leaders Juventus.
