Manchester United travel to Wales to take on Swansea on Sunday. Manager Louis van Gaal is out for revenge after losing both games last season against the Swans.
United are still undefeated after the three opening games of the season after wins over Tottenham and Aston Villa, along with a draw against Newcastle last weekend. Last season they opened up the season with a loss against Swansea and in the second meeting between the sides in February, the Swans were victorious once again.
Swansea won both meeting 2-1 and van Gaal is looking to get his first win over the Welsh side on Sunday.
“I don’t want to lose again,” van Gaal told manutd.com. “It’s the only club we could not beat or gain one point against [last season]. I hope we can improve and that we can show that we are better than last year.”
United are coming off an impressive 4-0 performance against Club Brugge in the Champions League qualification playoffs. Wayne Rooney scored a hat trick and United will be hoping that their captain will be banging in the goals on a regular basis now.
Swansea are also undefeated so far after two draws and a win. They were impressive in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Opening Day, and then went on to beat Newcastle 2-0. Last weekend they only managed to get a 1-1 draw against lowly Sunderland despite having a slew of chances. Andre Ayew has been phenomenal to start his Swansea career, and seem to have made the transition from the French Ligue 1 to the Premier league without any problems.
“My first match was against Swansea and we lost,” van Gaal said at the press conference. “Now I have my 50th and I hope we can show that we have improved. We are better prepared this year.”
