Silly Season – Soldado Leaving Tottenham For Villarreal

We have about three weeks left of the transfer window for the major European soccer leagues. Silly Season has been anything but boring this summer and here are some of the latest transfers and rumors as teams head into the new season.

Roberto Soldado is leaving Tottenham for Villarreal after a disappointing two years with the Spurs. The 30-year-old only scored seven league goals in 52 appearances during his two season at White Hart Lane.

Soldado did enjoy a lot of success in Spain with Valencia before joining the Spurs, scoring 59 goals in 101 league appearances. He will now return to Spain, and it remains to be seen if he can find his goal-scoring touch once more. Tottenham is now believed to try and buy Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.

Aston Villa has signed highly-touted prospect Adama Traore from FC Barcelona. The 19-year-old winger joined Barcelona’s youth academy at age 8, and has spent the past two seasons with Barcelona B.

Traore made his debut for the first team in 2013, where he as a 17-year-old came off the bench in a La Liga game against Granada. In all, Traore made four appearances and scored one goal for Barcelona. Traore has signed a five-year deal with Aston Villa.

Bayer Leverkusen has signed Charles Aranguiz from Brazilian side Internacional. The 26-year-old midfielder was part of the Chilean squad that won the Copa America title earlier in the summer.

Aranguiz scored 11 goals in 55 appearances for Internacional. Bayer Leverkusen opens up the German Bundesliga season on Saturday with a home game against TSG Hoffenheim.

Premier League newcomers Watford is taking in Nathan Ake on loan from Chelsea. The 20-year-old defender is behind John Terry, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma in the pecking order, and will now get much needed playing time at a high leveler with Watford. Chelsea released the news on their website on Friday.

Ake is a highly-touted prospect at Stamford Bridge. He spent part of last season on loan at Reading in the Championship. Ake has 13 caps for the Dutch U-21 national team.

The Guardian reports that Leicester City is on the verge of buying Gokhan Inler from Napoli. The 31-year-old Swiss midfielder is seen as an ideal replacement for Esteban Cambiasso who left the club after the end of last season.

Inler has spent four years at Napoli and played over 100 Serie A games. He also has 83 caps for the Swiss national team and captained his country in last year’s World Cup.

The Liverpool Echo reports that striker Fabio Borini could be leaving Liverpool for a loan spell at fellow Premier League side Sunderland. Borini, 24, is being frozen out by manager Brendan Rodgers and is not allowed to train with the first team.

Borini spent a season on loan at Sunderland back in 2013-2014 and scored seven goals in 32 league appearances. With all the new singing Liverpool has made during the summer, Borini and fellow Italian striker Mario Balotelli has been deemed expendable by Rodgers.

Sunderland are also rumored to be interested in loaning Adnan Januzaj from Manchester United, but after Januzaj started and scored for United in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Friday, it seems unlikely that manager Louis van Gaal wants to loan out his Belgian international.

Chelsea has been hot on the heels of Everton’s John Stones all summer long. ESPN FC reports that Manchester United is throwing their hat in the ring as well for the 21-year-old defender.

Everton have not shown any interest in selling their young star, but United are said to be willing to include Jonny Evans in addition to cash in order to get Stones to Old Trafford.
