Barca Heading To Champions League Final After Knocking Out Bayern

Bayern Munich did their best to catch up to Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals, but Barca’s 3-0 win in the first leg was too much of a deficit for the Germans to turn around, and despite winning at home 3-2, it’s Barcelona that is heading to the Champions League Final on 6 June in Berlin. With two goals from Neymar, Barca secured a 5-3 win on aggregate.

It was a thrilling first half in Munich as both teams came out swinging. A lot of chances were created early and both Manuel Neuer in the Munich goal and Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the Barca net had to make some big stops early on. Medhi Benatia gave Bayern the lead in the 7th minute with a great header from a corner by Xabi Alonso. Benatia was able to shake off his marker and headed the ball with such power that ter Stegen was unable to save it from going into the back of the net.

Munich had 16 shots, 8 on target during the game and a slight advantage in possession.

But, Barca has a lethal trio up top with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luiz Suarez, and it was these three players that combined when Neymar tied the game up in the 15th minute. Messi put a through ball to Suarez that squared the ball to Neymar who slotted the ball home from close range into an open net as Neuer had gone out to challenge Suarez.

These three combined once more as Barca took the lead in the 29th minute. Messi headed the ball to Suarez after a long kick by ter Stegen, Suarez broke into the penalty area and once more passed the ball over to Neymar, who did time had to do some more work in order to beat Neuer, but with a hard shot down by the keeper’s right post he was able to beat Neuer.

In the second half, Bayern kept pushing forward, and Robert Lewandowski tied the game up in the 59th minute with a perfectly placed shot just from inside the penalty area as he created just enough space between himself and the defending Barca payer to get off a shot with the right foot that went in off term Stegen’s left post.

Thomas Muller then made in 3-2 Bayern in the 74th minute with a hard and well-placed shot just outside the penalty area, but that was as close as Bayern would get as Barcelona went through on aggregate. Bayern fought hard until the end, and once again showed how good they are at home at the Allianz Arena.

Barca will now face the winner of the Juventus – Real Madrid matchup, and the second leg of that matchup is on Wednesday with Juve having a 2-1 lead on aggregate.
