The Sun reported on Friday that Barcelona’s superstar Neymar was on his way to Manchester United. The player’s agent has now gone out and denied that his client is leaving Spain.
It was branded as a “world exclusive” when The Sun published the story about Manchester United bidding on Neymar. It should be noted that the English tabloid does have the tendency to publish sensational stuff that seem to be geared to just selling papers.
But Neymar’s agent Wagner Ribeiro felt that he needed to nip this rumor in the bud.
“There’s no truth in it,” Ribeiro said according to Barcelona-based media outlet Marca. He has three more years left on his contract. The English press love spreading rumours. Barcelona have never thought of selling Neymar and he is very happy there”
The 23-year-old Brazilian star is coming off a phenomenal season where he won the treble with Barcelona. He scored 39 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions. He shared the Champions League Golden Boot with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi after scoring 10 goals in the competition.
Neymar returned to the training pitch on Saturday after being out with the mumps. He will not feature in Barcelona’s game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday as it will be some time before he’s back to full fitness. Neymar missed the double-meeting against Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup. Bilbao won the first leg 4-0 and took home the title after the game at the Nou Camp ended in a 1-1 draw.
