England took care of business against San Marino on Saturday in the Euro 2016 qualifiers, winning 6-0. The Three Lions now have seven straight wins.
England is one the cusp of qualifying for the Euro 2016 tournament in France next summer after picking up another win. England tops Group E on 21 points after winning all seven games so far.
It was David vs. Goliath as San Marino hosted England on Saturday, with Goliath pummeling David. It was England from start to finish, and minnows San Marino didn’t have a chance in this one. Wayne Rooney opened up the scoring in the 13th minute from the penalty spot. The goal was Rooney’s 49th for the English national team and puts him level with Sir Bobby Charlton for the all-time goalscoring lead.
England had 12 shots on target compared to San Marino’s one, and the English players were extremely effective when given a scoring opportunity. an own goal by Cristian Bolli made it 2-0 before halftime. In the second half, San Marino tired and England put in an extra gear to secure the win. Ross Barkley made it 3-0 early in the second half.
Theo Walcott came off the bench and made it 4-0 in the 68th minute with his first touch of the ball. Harry Kane found the net nine minutes later with a delicate chip over the San Marino goaltender, and Tottenham fans will be hoping that Kane will start scoring again in the Premier League as well. Walcott got his second of the game just a minute later.
England host second-placed Switzerland on Tuesday.
