Inter regained top position in the Serie A after beating newcomers Frosinone 4-0 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Sunday.
Jonathan Biabiany gave the Nerazzurri the lead in the 29th minute with his first goal of the season. Mauro Icardi scored early in the second half, and Jeison Murillo and Marcelo Brozovic also got on the scoresheet late in the game.
Biabiany, 27, missed almost all of last season after doctors at AC Milan detected a heart defect as he was closing in on a move to Milanello from Parma on the final day of the transfer window. As Parma fell into bankruptcy, Biabiany’s contract was voided and he signed a four-year deal with Inter, making it his third spell at the club.
The French winger was happy with getting his first goal of the season and the three points.
“Thank you to everyone who helped me through the difficult times and to all my team-mates. I’m happy about the goal,” Biabiany told inter.it after the win.
Biabiany made his sixth appearance in the league this season.
I’m very happy, it was important to get the victory today because these matches are never easy. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me when things got tough and also my team-mates for helping me to score. “The coach had mentioned during the week that he was thinking about playing me, but I didn’t know for sure. He keeps his cards close to his chest.”
Biabiany also spoke about the emotions he felt as the French national anthem was played before the game to show sympathy with France after the Paris attacks.
“I haven’t heard La Marseillaise in a stadium since I was playing in the France U21 team. I have family in Paris and I’m always in contact with them. There are horrible things happening at the moment, but the important thing is to remain united and pray for people who have lost loved ones.”
Inter leads Serie A on 30 points, two points ahead of second-placed Napoli. Inter will travel to Naples next Monday to take on Napoli.
