Napoli are back at the top of Serie A after beating Inter 2-1 at Stadio San Paolo in Naples on Monday with Gonzalo Higuain scoring twice.
Napoli now top the league on 31 points after 14 games, one point ahead of Inter. The home side got off to a good start as Gonzalo Higuain scored his first goal of the game right after the one minute mark. Inter failed to clear the ball inside the penalty area and instead Napoli took over and the ball landed at Higuain’s feet. The Argentine striker took a touch and then smashed the ball into the back of the net behind Samir Handanovic.
Inter went down to 10 men after Yuto Nagatomo was shown his second yellow card of the game in the 44th minute after a sliding challenge on Allan. The Japanese defender was already on a yellow card from the 35th minute, and the challenge he put on Allan gave Napoli even more control of the game.
Higuain added his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute to put Napoli up 2-0. Higuain made a great run in between two Inter defenders after a through ball by Raul Albiol and showed great composure as he placed the ball into the back of the net. Adem Ljajic gave inter some hope as he scored five minutes later, but Napoli managed to hold on for the win.
Higuain has 12 goals in 14 games and leads the Serie A in scoring ahead of Nikola Kalinic and Eder who are both on nine goals.
