Real Madrid Smash Rayo Vallecano 10-2

Gareth Bale scored four goals in Real Madrid’s demolition of Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. Rayo played the majority of the game with nine men after two red cards in the first half.

Danilo gave Madrid the lead in the 3rd minute, but Rayo came back and actually held a 2-1 lead by the 12th minute after goals by Antonio Amaya and Jozabed. But, in the 15th minute things started to fall apart for the visitors as Tito got sent off after receiving a straight red card.

Bale tied the game up in the 25th minute, and after Raul Baena got sent off in the 29th minute after getting his second yellow card of the night, Cristiano Ronaldo gave Madrid the lead from the penalty spot. Bale scored his second of the night in the 41st minute to put Real up 4-2 at halftime.

In the second half, the Merengues just overpowered Rayo. Karim Benzema scored a hat trick, Bale scored twice more and Ronaldo grabbed a second goal of the game as Real came up to double digits on the scoresheet.

Manager Rafa Benitez was pleased with the gluttony of goals.

“There were three phases in the match: the first, in which we scored and did what we knew we were capable of doing, and constantly looked to get in behind their defenders; the second, when we conceded two goals and needed to pay more attention in defence; and the third, when the team got into the game by making the most of the numerical advantage,” Benitez told realmadrid.com. “From that point on we did what we needed to do, scored goals.

“Unlike the players I get to leave the dressing room a bit later and focus on the game. We started scoring and the supporters were happy. None of us want to make mistakes and when we overcome them we have to take advantage of the situation presented to us, and that’s what we did today.”

Real sits in 3rd place in La Liga, two points behind leaders Barcelona who were inactive this weekend in the league as they played in the Club World Cup in Japan.
