Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 3-0 in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. United will now take on Middlesbrough in the next round.
Wayne Rooney, Andreas Pereira and Anthony Martial scored as the Red Devils disposed of the Tractor Boys at Old Trafford.
United manager Louis van Gaal was happy with the win and the players he brought into the side.
“The result was great,” van Gaal told MUTV. “We don’t have injuries. I brought in players, I rotated players. Phil Jones has played a lot of minutes. So I’m a happy coach.”
Rooney opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute as the captain controlled a pass by Daley Blind and outmuscled the Ipswich defender and slotted in behind the goalkeeper. In the 60th minute Pereira made it 2-0 with a beautiful free-kick. Martial then scored the final goal of the game in added time. Van Gaal was happy with all the players that found the back of the net and the fashion the goals were scored.
“The first goal I like the most because it was a fantastic pass from Daley Blind and the way Wayne Rooney finished it was fantastic because it was not so easy,” van Gaal said. “The free-kick was beautiful but we know this is his [Pereira’s] quality, that’s why he may take the free-kick. Of course then there was Anthony’s [Martial] goal. In the last 15 minutes the gaps were bigger and bigger so it was was easy for him.”
United will go up against Championship side Middlesbrough in the next round of the Capital One Cup.
