Arsenal was thrashed 5-1 at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday during Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League. Despite the loss, manager Arsene Wenger believes his squad still has a chance to make the knockout stage of the tournament.
“It’s a small chance but there is still a real one,” Wenger told reporters. “We have to realise with the kind of performance we have today that our chance is at a minimum.”
Arsenal need to win their final two games and hope Bayern Munich defeats Olympiakos to even have a chance to make that chance a reality. But all Wenger wants is a chance.
“There is still a chance to qualify,” Wenger said. “It’s a small chance but there is still a real one.”
He added: “You have to give credit to Bayern for their quality but we made things easy for them. We were extremely poor defensively.
“The funny thing was that when we went forward every time we looked like we could create chances but with a defensive performance like that you are going nowhere.”
Away from the Champions League, Arsenal are 8-1-2 and tied with Manchester City for the most points atop the Premier League table (25).
