Zardes Staying With LA Galaxy

LA Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes is staying at the club according to manager Bruce Arena and team president Chris Klein.

Galaxy has already sold Omar Gonzalez and Juninho this offseason as the club is trying to retool for next season, but despite interest from European clubs, Zardes, 24, looks to be staying.

“We fully anticipate having Gyasi back with the Galaxy,” Arena told LA Galaxy Insider.

Klein expanded on Arena’s comments, as Zardes is viewed as a key member of the squad. The former CSUB Roadrunner scored five goals in 19 appearances in the 2015 season. Zardes has 19 caps for the United States national team and has been given a lot of trust by national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

“Gyasi is a kid that grew up in our backyard. He came through our Academy and succeeded for our club, and now he’s succeeding for the national team. We’re very proud of that,” Klein said. “I think the most exciting thing is to look at Gyasi and to see the type of person that he is and to understand that he continues to work hard and has a long way to go. That’s exciting for our club, that’s exciting for our fans, and it’s exciting for Gyasi. We want to continue to see him score a lot of goals in a Galaxy shirt.”

Zardes got his breakthrough during the 2014 season as he ended up scoring 16 goals in 32 league games. Zardes is a Homegrown Product, coming through the Galaxy academy, and Klein says that Zardes is a good example of the work the academy does, and that’s there are more promising players in the pipeline.

“Gyasi is a player who has done very well and has progressed in our system. We think he has a long way to go, but we also think through our Academy that there are more Gyasis,” Klein said. “There are more players coming up that no one has ever heard of that we get to see on a daily basis that are going to continue to come through our system.”
